My name is Christine Alexander and I am the Chief Executive of Crossroads Care East Midlands. I have worked for Crossroads Care East Midlands since May 1995 working my way up through the organisation over a number of years.

In November 2001 I was appointed Scheme Director and have seen the organisation grow and develop over the years. My biggest achievement so far has been taking the lead on the regionalisation of the Crossroads Care schemes in the East Midlands in line with the Government’s social care agenda. Since 2007 we have successfully merged with 7 Crossroads Care schemes and created a single operating unit providing services to carers across the East Midlands. This has created opportunity to expand and develop our services to respond to the diverse need of carers and support those who previously lived in areas without a Crossroads Care service.

My name is Richard Thomas. I qualified in social work in 1976 after completing a science degree and practised generic fieldwork and team leadership with Surrey County Council for a number of years. I progressed to a senior management post responsible for the delivery and financial control of a full range of social services to a large division of the county before moving to the voluntary sector to become Chief Executive of Mencap in Nottingham for nine years, before retirement in 1999. Whilst in this position I joined a steering group, which pioneered the Crossroads service in Nottingham established in 1994. As a trustee of the board since 1994 I was nominated as Chair in 2005.

Hi, my name is Steve Tetley and I have been the Finance and Strategy Director since I joined Crossroads Care East Midlands in May 2009. Prior to joining as an employee I provided financial support and advice in a voluntary capacity for a number of years. I have always worked in a finance role and in May 2001 achieved my full qualification as a Chartered Accountant. Prior to joining Crossroads I spent fifteen years working for a global technical company where I worked in various roles. I believe these various roles have provided me with the experience needed to take Crossroads Care East Midlands forward. I am looking forward to the challenges ahead as we develop the organisation and it’s services while developing my own experience.

Since I joined I have restructured the way the finance function works to enable enhanced Management Reporting, including Monthly Management Accounts for all areas within the Region. This information has enabled Manager’s & the Board of Trustee’s to make quick decisions based on timely and accurate data.

Hi, my name is Kate Bent and I have been the Regional HR Business Partner for Crossroads Care East Midlands since November 2008. I have practiced HR since 2005 and my experience of dealing with staff and stakeholders has enhanced my knowledge and commercial acumen making me a flexible and pragmatic HR Business Partner. I achieved my chartered membership status for the CIPD in June 2008 and I am committed to continuous personal development and seek new challenges to broaden my knowledgebase and experiences within HR.

During my appointment I have had the opportunity to drive the people agenda and integrate HR as part of the overall strategy. As an active member of the regional team it is an exciting time to participate in a developing charity and shaping business objectives.

The Personal Care at Home Bill, which is currently going through Parliament, proposes to help an estimated 400,000 older people and people with disabilities across England. The free personal care will be available to those who have severe care needs to help them live independently for as long as possible helping them with washing, eating and getting dressed.

Whilst many charities are supporting the Bill the Local authorities are calling for an urgent meeting with health ministers to discuss funding for the Personal Care at Home Bill. The Association of Directors of Adult Social Services state that the Government has “significantly under-estimated” the cost of this extra provision and claim the cost of this Bill will be in the region of £1 billion, which is significantly more than the £700 million estimated by the Government.
